Material selection in energy applications isn’t just about mechanical performance.

A component may come into contact with fuels, drilling fluids, lubricants, saltwater, acids, solvents or other chemicals throughout its service life. Exposure can affect different materials in different ways and temperature; pressure and duration can amplify those effects.

That means compatibility needs to be evaluated against the actual environment rather than a generic description of the application.

Even seals, adhesives, coatings and interfaces between materials deserve consideration. A component can be mechanically strong and still experience problems if one element of the system reacts poorly to its environment.

For energy manufacturers, understanding these interactions early can help reduce premature degradation, maintenance and unexpected downtime.

GP&C works with customers to evaluate material options for demanding energy environments.
