Absolutely!

Engineering teams naturally want to create margin for safety and performance. But adding strength, thickness, tighter tolerances or more expensive materials beyond what an application requires can increase weight, cost and manufacturing complexity without creating meaningful value.

The challenge is knowing where margin matters.

For an aerospace component, unnecessary material can work directly against weight objectives. In energy applications, specifying a premium material for every component may add cost even when only certain areas face the most demanding conditions.

Good engineering isn’t about maximizing every specification. It’s about understanding which requirements are critical and designing appropriately around them.

GP&C works collaboratively with customers to evaluate performance requirements and identify where complexity adds value and where it may not. Have a component you think could be simplified?
