A better RFQ can lead to a better solution and often a more useful quote.

A drawing and quantity are a good starting point, but they don’t always tell the whole story. Understanding where a component will operate, what loads it will experience, temperature and chemical exposure, critical dimensions, expected service life and annual production volume can significantly change how a manufacturer approaches the part.

It also helps to identify what is fixed and what is flexible. Is the material already qualified? Can geometry change? Is a particular manufacturing process required, or is the manufacturer free to recommend one?

The more context an engineering partner has, the more opportunity there is to identify risks, alternatives and potential efficiencies before production begins.
